If nothing else, this reboot of the Transporter franchise should do wonders for Audi sales, not to mention car safety. Every passenger who sets foot in the tricked-out, gleaming German automobile driven by the titular character is immediately ordered to fasten their seat belt. It’s sound advice, because The Transporter Refueled is a cinematic bumpy ride.

The presence of Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep in supporting roles will help draw some attention from grown-ups who don’t know the book, but while the film may see enough success to justify follow-ups (Lowry has written three sequels), this franchise won’t come close to competing with The Hunger Games.

While the predictable sequel has not yet been confirmed, one thing is clear: Edwards’ version of Godzilla remains the ultimate monster movie. The legacy has been upheld.

The thing is, you are likely to be disappointed, say critics. The film is bad, Paul Walker is good. And we will miss him.
