• If you look at the film without these elements, it is a wafer-thin plot. But the actors and the quick humour that the narrative is laced with make the film engaging and entertaining. It might not have the vivacity and spark of Anand L Rai’s films but comes quite close to replicating the charm of small-town romances from the North Indian heartland with its various nuances.

  • This may be too simplistic for an Imtiaz Ali film but this one is a complete entertainer.

  • ‘Rock On’ showcases some good performances, but it doesn’t recreate the youthful simplicity of the first part. And, most vitally, where is all the ‘rock’?

  • There are most definitely some moments that will give you goose bumps and the Dhoni’s frustration often tugs at your heartstrings. But this story – the tale of one of India’s favourite sons – could have been much more.

  • ‘Rustom’ should have either been a taut mystery where the tension is palpable or a love story where the heartbreak and the betrayal are tangible. Sadly, this does neither.

  • This is a Salman Khan film and when it manages to entertainment all along, I am ready to overlook the nuances.

For Salman’s fans, Eid celebrations have definitely started early because this one is a sure winner.

‘Sultan’ will rake in the moolah and I am sure the makers can already hear the cash registers ringing.

  • While this is a compelling story, there are just too many loopholes in this thriller to keep it gripping throughout its runtime. For once, it seemed that Anurag Kashyap was more caught up with the stylistic elements than with the actual narrative in this story.

  • ‘Udta Punjab’ is definitely a must-watch, but for a film that is tackling so real an issue even the minor indulgences seem a bit much. This film is not a fun ride and for serious film buffs, the fact that the director seems to lose his grip a little is disappointing.

Abhishek Chaubey, however, deserves applause for an intense, dark and disturbing depiction of the state of Punjab.

  • It’s a shame that such an awesome plot suffers from such inept execution. Alas, that too in a film where Shah Rukh Khan has outdone himself as an actor.

Whether you are a fan or not, watch this one for a side of SRK you have never seen before.

  • Shakun Batra proves that there is no substitute for good writing – the story is compelling, the dialogues are well written and the casting is perfect. The music is refreshing and just blends in never disrupting the narrative.

Watch ‘Kapoor & Sons’, it will make you laugh and cry and will leave you with a smile.
