'Gangs of Wasseypur', the sequel which picked up from the events which last happened, carries the vendetta very effectively in the first half. It's better than 'Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1' on the whole. With heishy tricks and meaty premise, who'll not love another small town story with a vendetta, revenge game at its core?
And the performances are the main reason. Richa Chadda in an older version of her character feels more solid as a grieving wife and a worried mother. Huma Qureshi is as effective. And Tigmanshu Dhulia takes a baclseat once again, in style, as Ramadhir Singh. And this time it is Nawazuddin Siddiqui who wims you over with his charm- his Faizal Khan is sober, strong and suspenseful.
But let me agree, I enjoyed the first half a little more. The second half loses the relatability which I boasted of, thanks to the first part of the film and the first half of the second part itself. Not that it loses its fizz, but it is still simmers in plot devices which makes it a little blring towards the climax.
And still, you need to watch 'GoW II' because its the lovely, restrained and strong revenge thriller we want. It has all the elements of a colloquial, grounded drama and it shakes you to the core. Its a 3.5 out of 5 for the second part of 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. Not close enough a sequel, and still the best Hindi film of the year.
