Make no mistake, Mani Ratnam's Hindi feature 'Raavan' is an original, despite 'Ravanan', the Tamil film with the same story, same genre and the same name. But it is a whole lot contrived. It is bloody long, more than that extremely loose, and with bad performance. It is smashingly overlong, and there's bad Abhishek Bachchan. Ofcourse there are great films which glorify the bad people, but this outlaw film doesn't even try to be great. You, for one, please watch 'Ravanan'. It is a more layered, more nuanced storytelling-piece which arrests you right after an exhausting first fifteen minutes and doesn't let go. I loved 'Ravanan'... and I hate 'Raavan'.
