Yeh Hai Bakrapur fails to live up to its early promise due to lacklustre direction.

The film is also shabbily edited with abruptly cut scenes in several places.

You may not be overwhelmed by Vishwanathan’s satire. But you won’t come away without a smile and smirk in this sly look-see at rural India where every second citizen is a certifiable attention-seeker.

Tthe film is as unique as superstar Shah Rukh Khan, but it lacks his charisma. Editing is a major flaw. A few scenes end abruptly while the rest go on forever, making you wonder if the director forgot to say ‘cut’. A slow build-up and a comparatively hurried climax are spoilers too. Even the dialogues are not as funny as they should ideally be.

This Bakrapur makes a bakra out of those expecting something above the ordinary.

I did not leave the hall with a smile after Yeh Hai Bakrapur for the simple reason that I saw there was lot more potential entrapped in the story than what came out on screen. The frenzy for filmstars in our country left unexplored despite being hinted on repeatedly.

The flat climax and dissatisfaction after the ending left me dull. There was so much matter put to so little use.

Naming the goat in the film Shah Rukh seems amusing and quirky. Still, it is unlikely to get you to rush to theatres the way you do for a SRK film. Ultimately, Yeh Hai Bakrapur turns out to be a lost cause. Watching it on TV may make better sense.

…employs a comic tone to tell a serious story. Armed with a simplistic, but innovative plot and an engaging screenplay, this small little film deserves a watch because it’s made with heart.

There are some moments that are fun filled but they are very few and far between. The camera movement has some few but what the film lacks is taut screenplay to keep it going. For example those romantic songs have no space if the intention is to make a satire. In process of trying to please everyone, it ends up making very few happy.

The direction, editing and production values are all dismal. And the less you talk about the performances the better. The only thing worth mention is young Yoshika Verma’s porcelain looks. And if so little is the saving grace of a movie, then this is a certified lost cause. Don’t be a bakra. Save your time and money, and go get yourself some mutton and biryani.

YEH HAI BAKRAPUR is for the intelligentsia, those who love their cinema, shaken, stirred and with salt at the rim!

After all, the general public is constantly being made a bakra of!

The film, no doubt, manages to keep you entertained throughout, sometimes even raising a few chuckles. But the storyline and certain situations seem too hackneyed. The climax seemed too hurried as if the scriptwriter (Janki Vishwanathan) was suddenly not sure how to tie up its loose ends. Each of the actors fits in very well and delivers good performances. In fact, Suruchi Aulakh, who plays the terror of a mother, and Jha are fantastic. This brave attempt at social satire — with no stars but just a goat named after a superstar — is worth lauding. Watch this film at least once.

…is an interesting fare but one which does not have any commercial value. At the ticket-windows, it will fail to make any impact whatsoever, its unusual title and absence of face value only adding to its tale of woes.

Yeh Hai Bakrapur has a very interesting premise. However it falls short of becoming a really good film. It will make you smile nonetheless at the inane situations that can actually become a reality in the country.

A slow satire that will put you to sleep.

…a witty, entertaining and thought-provoking film. It makes its point in a subtle way, keeping it from ever getting preachy. The brilliant acting coupled with the killer soundtrack and visuals makes it worth watching.

One of the few films that is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. Do watch!

The story about this miraculous goat heads nowhere. The satire is too consistent, and the same ignorance repeats itself in different ways. Inexplicably, there is no third act. It feels like the filmmakers ran out of unconventional characters, and didn’t even bother to end on an ambiguous note.
