Rajeev Masand shared with us, his top 5 favorite Hollywood and Bollywood films of all time. Read what he had to say about this Masand Ki Pasand list!
“Thanks to Jaws, I cannot go into a pool if I’m the only person in it, even if it’s 8 o’clock in the morning and well-lit. And I cannot go into the pool if it’s dark, even if there are 800 other people in it.”
Jaws
One time, Spielberg was in India and I got to interview him. I told him that I genuinely love Jaws, but thanks to the film, I cannot go into a swimming pool if I’m the only person in the pool. Even if it’s 8 o’clock in the morning and it’s well-lit, I cannot. And I cannot go into a pool if it’s dark, even if there are 800 other people in it. Yet, I’m fascinated by Sharks! Even though I’m petrified of them, I’ll watch anything and everything that has to do with them. I’ve watched Sharknado 1, 2, 3… If there’s a Shark movie out there, I’ve watched it.
E.T.
“Another childhood movie that changed my life. I love E.T. When I first went to Universal Studios, I made sure I got my E.T. toy. You can understand why I hated Koi Mil Gaya.”
Fight Club
“I’m a huge David Fincher fan. I love all his films but Fight Club has got to be my favorite one.”
An Affair To Remember
“One of my favorite romantic films of all time. Again, why Mann? Why ruin a perfect film by attempting a horrible remake?”
Toy Story (trilogy)
“I LOVE Toy Story. The scene in the 3rd one, where the toys all hold hands, ready to go down the furnace –thank God for the 3D glasses, because I was weeping! I was at a children’s screening at Disney and it would be so embarrassing if they saw me sobbing!”
Mughal-e-Azam
“It’s the romance, it’s the music and it’s Madhubala. When you see her in the “Mohe Panghat Pe” song, how do you not fall in love? I’ve seen it so many times, even when they released it in color. I really love that film.”
Mr. India
“It is my childhood favorite. Actually, if you asked me to name just one film. Mr. India would be it. It’s a film that I can watch any day, at any stage, wherever I happen to turn it on.”
Company
“Satya may have re-defined the gangster genre, but I much preferred Company. It had an economy of dialogue. Vivek Oberoi was so great, Ajay had that smoldering quality and Manisha smoking away with that pixie haircut…it was all very nicely done.”
Black Friday
“I think it is one of Anurag’s strongest movies. The chase scene in that film is one of the greatest chase scenes in Hindi cinema. It has such great acting. That’s the film that put him on the map and made you take notice.”
Andaz Apna Apna
“Never gets old. My favorite scene is where Aamir is having dinner with Raveena and Salman is looking through the glass, laughing like crazy. Aamir thinks that this guy has lost it until Raveena tells him the reason. It’s just genius.”
