'Aashiqui 2' works because it has an unmatchable male lead who cannot be replaced. As the male lover, Aditya Roy Kapoor's performance is passionate and absolutely comforting, even of the terribly written female lead (played by Shraddha Kapoor) is lackluster as a heroine- she is shining and her performance is good in the first half, but still she is undeniably under the jacket. The film is alsonaffected by the melodrama, which sucks out the originality of the film as an Indian take on 'A Star is Born'. But it still works because the music is as touching as 'Aashiqui'. Arijit Singh is a true star!
The film is a very contrived, mainstream Hindi feature where there are two people who romance each other. But the writing is not weak, and so isn't the direction.0October 20, 19 -
Many Positives In The Film, The Big Negative Is The Story Isn't That Good, Direction And Acting Of The Two Leads Are Avg Too..

I have not seen Ashiqui so I can’t compare Ashiqui 2 with Ashiqui but one thing is sure that Ashiqui 2 is no-nonsense, sincere romantic drama. I think this is the best from Mohit Suri so far. Aditya Roy Kapoor has good screen presence; there is something edgy about him so he looks perfect for this kind of role where he need not to do any conventional stuff. Shraddha Kapoor looks beautiful and makes a good pair with Aditya. A bollywood romance can’t be without music so here you have an array of soulful numbers easily mixed up with narrative. The story is not something fresh even it can remind you of old classic Abhimaan but movie scores in its treatment and with an end which leaves you with mixed feeling. Overall, a satisfying movie to watch any day.0July 31, 13 -
