Anand is a Hindi drama film written and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and released in 1971. It starred Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles; Khanna played the title role. The dialogues were written by Gulzar. It is widely considered as one of the best films of Hindi film industry, a masterpiece of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and the role of Anand regarded as Rajesh Khanna's best role. Upon its release, the film was a major hit and made newcomer Amitabh Bachchan a noticeable name. The film won numerous awards and enjoys a cult status.
