As the director quotes – Nobody sees the struggles of a filmmaker, all that people see is the filmmaker’s output and where he stands today. In that case, the director’s debut film is a one he can be proud of, not because of the struggle he’s gone through to make this film, but, because, the way he’s delivered the film is modest, fun and thought-provoking.

Kallapadam is a film where everything is enjoyable except for the misfit casting of protagonists and dreary dialogues.

It’s as if the director got cold feet about portraying producers as uncouth hoarders of black money who deserve to be looted — and we wind up with a dedication to… producers. Survival, I suppose. Who wants to antagonize the people who run the business? This cop-out is its own little meta-commentary.

Kallappadam is refreshing amidst its slow paced screenplay and some logical loopholes. It is definitely an honest attempt and is also praiseworthy.
