Mohabbatein is most notable for being the first time that Bachchan and Khan appeared on-screen together. Narayan Shankar (Amitabh Bachchan) is the strict headmaster of Gurukul, a prestigious all-boys university and he places emphasis on tradition, honor and discipline. He has run the university for 25 years and over that time has forbid the students from any kind of romance — anyone he catches falling in love will be expelled. It's a mish-mash alright. But it is also a successful, feelgood film. You'll enjoy yourself as you watch it. Never mind that you'll most probably forget it soon after you leave the darkened environs. And, hey, don't forget to take the hankies along.

Director Aditya Chopra is at his best when he is handling the two stars. The goings-on don't get overdramatic even once in those scenes. Even the transition of the love stories in the initial reels is captivating. But Aditya should've realised the importance of the length ? what can be conveyed in two-and-a-half hours need not be stretched to three hours and thirty-six minutes. This kind of a length was just not required!

The three young couples are lovey-dovey, but the way in which they come together for every dance number is rather irritating. Be it a dance for Holi, a jig to celebrate Valentine's day or a mutual-confession-of-love dance, all three couples have to be present for the dance, with Shahrukh and Ash wafting around, looking very happy!

This movie revolves around two main characters, Amitabh Bhachan and Shah Rukh Khan. Both are stubborn ,strong willed. One doesn't believe in love, but another believes that love conquer all.
In this movie, Shah Rukh become a music teacher at Gurukul, one of the most pretigious college in India while Amitabh acts as the college principal. This movie is too lengthy because it focus on three young couples, but Shah Rukh and Amitabh is the saving grace for this movie. Both of them act superbly and was able to express their feelings which make the acting seem believable. The six newcomers; Shamita Sheety, Uday Chopra, Kim Sharma, Jugal Hansraj, Preeti Jhangiani and Jimmy Shergill, seem to need more coaching considering this is their first venture in Hindi movies. Preeti Jhangiani and Jimmy Shergill seems like the only couple who has a storyline to develop their 'relationship'. The others? Well, let just say that they tried hard but there seems no depth in their acting. There are also some scenes that are illogical, for example: the way Aishwarya Rai died (I believe Aish should only have bruises falling from 2 floors house!) and the leaf that Shah Rukh keeps even it had dated a few years before (The leaf should be crumpled, not as fresh as it still looks!) This movie is only for those who believe in reel life , not real life0November 27, 16
