His lanky physique, thick moustache, deep and resonant voice, and Southern drawl have led to frequent roles as cowboys and ranchers.[1] His credits throughout the years have included playing Wade Garrett in Road House , The Stranger in The Big Lebowski , Gar in Mask , General John Buford in Gettysburg , Virgil Earp in Tombstone , Command Sergeant Major Basil L. Plumley in We Were Soldiers , Marvel Comics characters Thunderbolt Ross in Hulk and The Caretaker in Ghost Rider .
