Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman are a real pleasure to watch in an easy, unforced drama that mixes romcom moments with a relaxed crime thriller. It's a bit of a disappointment when the story starts taking predictable turns, though the characters do hold surprises even if the plot doesn't.

GOAT

GOAT

2026 · TheGuardian · Feb 2026

This loud, chaotic and unlovable animated kids' comedy feels as though it is bordering on AI slop, algorithmically generated and instantly familiar from Zootropolis, Sing and other movies with talking animals. In spite of this connection, Goat lacks heart and soul, and a sense of genuine emotions. The only thing that lingers after leaving the cinema is a headache.

As remakes go, it isn't as lame as it could be. Director Kimberly Peirce gets inside the psychology of her characters more than Brian De Palma did in 1976.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

2013 · TimeOut · Dec 2013

'Catching Fire' looks and feels epic. Hands down it's one of the most entertaining films of the year. But there's also something here-and-now about it – it taps the zeitgeist with its them-and-us society and the feeling that when money is in the hands of so few, the odds are never in our favour.
