GOAT

The film is too loud, too frenzied, too pyrotechnics-obsessed to blinding and deafening effect. The confusion is apparent—GOAT is unclear whether it aims to be a film for children about dreaming big or a film for adults about aiming big.

This new animated movie isn't doing anything new story-wise, but it's a fun and engaging underdog (or undergoat?) sports comedy that shines thanks to its wonderful production design and animation.

GOAT may not be the G.O.A.T in terms of premise, but its spirited storytelling, vibrant animation, a spirited underdog sports tale that scores big on fun.

The jaded plot of son turning against his upright father has been done-to-death in south movies. Both Vijay's dance well and keep the audience engaged but they fall short in performances at quite a few places. Music director Yuvan Shankar Raja fails to impress since he just belted out uninspiring tunes with no recall value.

So, it almost goes without saying, this film is far from the greatest of all time. But neither is it the worst. There is fun to be had for your eyes if not your ears, in how inventive and sharp and full of detail the world is. But we've come to expect more from this lot.

"GOAT" is not as funny as it thinks it is and tiresome in its overly familiar redemption arc. While not as bad as "Space Jam," it is an air ball none the same.
