Not only expert homage for the fans but a first-rate, energised piece of mega-Hollywood adventure, the hugely anticipated ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ stirs more to life than just The Force.

This adaptation of John Green’s bestselling 2012 young adult novel about a teenage girl in love and living with cancer is far from the shameless emotional pummelling it might have been. It finds its own understated way to earn tears, and that’s a tricky thing to pull off given the material.

Only viewers with zero appreciation for the genre will leave unimpressed; devotees should add approximately six stars to the rating above.
