Neil Soans's Film Reviews

If Marshall’s mere intent was to shock you with excessive gore and expletives, then he manages to do that. It isn’t quite enough, especially if you leave the theatre confused about what just happened, due to a ludicrous plot. Despite McShane and Harbour’s best efforts, this exhaustive ‘end-of-the-world’ story is unable to raise as much hell as it should.

The only reason that the movie is bearable in the first half is because it is a comedy. But when it turns into a whodunit in the second half and a new emotional angle is introduced, it falls completely flat. Neither the performances nor an ever changing storyline, where newer characters are introduced, help pick it up. An anticlimactic, emotional ending further seals the fate of this film.

Sadly, the film holds back from completely committing to that direction and ends up being yet another generic Christmas flick. Watch this only if you’ve exhausted all the other choices out there.

As ‘The Space Between Us’ resorts to generic pandering by catering to its core demographic of teens and young adults looking for a date movie around Valentine’s Day, the real space ends up being between a great concept on paper, and its actualisation on screen.

All of this doesn’t distract from the painfully apparent lack of interest written on the face of the lead star Kate Beckinsale – she’s not even the most interesting character in a series built around her, and it’s obvious she’s simply going through the motions to collect another pay check. Clearly this entry is building up to yet another sequel while sacrificing itself in the process, leaving ‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ in a bloody mess.
