• What works in the film’s favour is that it acts not only as a strong entry by itself but also as a build-up to the inevitable and now essential sequel. Rest assured – King’s nightmare is alive, freaky and endearing at the same time. If you’re a horror fan, don’t miss ‘It’!

  • ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ keeps you entertained long enough to make it worth a watch.

  • If only it was a tighter story – ‘Hitman’s Bodyguard’ would be a crisper and much better film. But don’t let that detract you from checking this out and enjoying it for what it is – a forgettable yet fun watch at the theatre.

  • ‘Atomic Blonde’ is just enough fun. But it tries so hard to be mysterious and unpredictable that it ends up being more chaotic than it deserves to be. Truly a missed opportunity that leaves you more baffled than awestruck.

  • The visual sugar-high never killed anyone, and as far as escapist blockbusters go, Valerian and The City of A Thousand Planets is as imaginative and spectacular as they come. Just keep your mind switched off and put your 3D glasses on.

  • If nothing else, it is yet another landmark achievement by one of the most important and skilled storytellers in the present generation of filmmaking.

  • There are several unanswered questions about them, such as how they’ve come into existence, but perhaps it’s best not to expect so much from a series that barely delivers on the promise of being a fun watch, let alone being a thought-provoking franchise. Watch this only if you’re a fan of the first installment.

  • There’s enough gruesome eye candy, and in-your-face action to enjoy in ‘The Mummy’ if you ignore the plot holes and frustrating characters. But the first entry in Universal Pictures’ monster franchise comes across as a desperate attempt by the studio to capitalise on Hollywood’s current world-building frenzy.

  • Weak and shallow villains – the plague of superhero films – also infect ‘Wonder Woman’, and become a particularly sore point in the third act. These issues tend to take you out of the film’s experience and while they don’t negate the positives listed so far, lessen its potential to reach new heights as a great comic book movie. That said – this is undoubtedly the strongest DCEU outing till now, one that will add a new world of (female) fans to the franchise, and for all the right reasons.

  • Although the film presents some interesting concepts regarding the survival of one species over another, it doesn’t change the fact that ‘Covenant’ is by-and-large, a rehash of several elements that made the series work in the first place, and does little to propel it into compelling territory. Clearly there’s not much left to explore in this ‘Alien’ world and fans would be better off revisiting the first two classics to find their screams again.
