As kids, we used to act out fight scenes with the dishum dishum voice over and all, it was over the top and badly acted. Given the silliness and tawdriness in every department of film making, Bhaag Johnny reminded me those childhood antics.

Hollywood anyway gives us an overdose of heroism from time to time so it is good to watch a film that takes a step back to see the drama unfold. Backed by commendable performances, Everest is eminently worth a watch.

Katti Batti is one of those aspiring rom- coms with a dash of sentimentality thrown in – effectively it is more of a slap than a dash, as the screenplay nosedives towards self destruction. What starts off breezily ends up huffing and puffing as it approaches the finishing line.

apart from launching new ‘stars’ these remakes actually serve no purpose. To begin with, the filmmakers don’t have enough grounds to believe that they will better or even come close matching the original. So if that is the case, why bother in the first place?

Although Agent 47 is a ‘programmed’ human we don’t really get to see what motivates him to do what he is doing and neither is there any focus on the larger issue. While the film may not be boring, it doesn’t really rise above the ordinary either.

If anything, this is one long commercial for the car maker Audi -the S8 model to be more precise. No matter how many chases it is involved in, it will still come out without a scratch. Unless you decide to blow it up yourself. Car aficionados will love the action, movie lovers can snooze through it.

Almost a decade after Welcome, which was no great shakes by any stretch of imagination but nevertheless was good enough for a few silly laughs, we have the sequel in the form of Welcome Back. As the audience, we were surely much better off if they hadn’t come back. It is not worth a wada-pav, and a big ensemble cast has just been cobbled together to create some kind of chaos to pass off as a story. This is sheer lazy writing that too at its worst.

The film focuses on all aspects in equal measure – it never gets too serious like a Jason Bourne film nor does it appear like a parody at any point. The production design is fantastic and add to it, there is also vintage music to complete the package.

The spark and drama of Bajrangi is not there and the fairly terse action drama of Ek Tha Tiger is missing. What we end up with is a screenplay which has as much fizz as a cola that has been left open for a week.

The build-up moves steadily at a brisk pace with not many dull moments. It hits a few bumps when they become superheroes when an experiment goes horribly wrong. In fact even the initial portions when they discover what has happened to them is handled well but when it comes to saving the earth it is on a familiar and sticky wicket.
