On the whole, EKK DEEWANA THA has a few sparkling moments, that’s about it. However, it lacks the fizz for the spectator to go deewana!

There’s a drought of writers. Good writers. Screenwriters who bring substance and value to writing. The absence of a talented name like Sujit Sen, who wrote a number of films for Mahesh Bhatt and who penned the script of STAYING ALIVE, makes you recognize this fact all the more. STAYING ALIVE, a black comedy that borrows from real life, may not be riveting in entirety, but it makes an effort to say something novel, something inventive.

A number of films portraying the common man’s fight against corruption have been attempted in the past. But GALI GALI CHOR HAI arrives at the most opportune time. Corruption is fiercely debated and the most discussed issue today and the fight against corruption has already hit headlines, courtesy social activist and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

SADDA ADDA is a decent attempt, but will have to rely on a strong word of mouth to sustain.

CHAALIS CHAURAASI is inconsistent. It could’ve done with a better script!

On the whole, JO HUM CHAHEIN is a decent watch that will require a strong word of mouth to leave a mark.

On the whole, DESI BOYZ has an entertaining first half and decent performances as its plusses, but a tedious and least compelling second hour stands out like a sore thumb. Leaves a lot to be desired!

On the whole, SHAKAL PE MAT JA is one of those whacked-out satires that sounds far funnier on paper than on screen.

On the whole, MILEY NAA MILEY HUM is an absorbing fare with decent merits. A light-hearted entertainer that’s an easy watch.

On the whole, LOOT is an 80s style masala fare that lacks smart writing and slick direction. At best, it may find some patronage from spectators who relish typical masala fares.
