Avatar: Fire and Ash

Cameron builds and builds on what is now a familiar template. However, you may find yourself wishing it also took some breaths. You want to see more of them together than the Sullys, their largely predictable duels, the family's familiar arc, and some tedious dialogues.

This Na'vi adventure feels slightly less alien, but builds to an immensely gratifying finale that's well worth the wait.

Avatar: Fire And Ash is visually stunning and emotionally engaging, offering strong performances and thrilling action. Still, it is predictable. For fans of the franchise, it is a rewarding continuation that deepens the family drama and expands the world of Pandora.

This edition ratchets up the action to new heights... This is what they used to call in Hollywood a true epic, taking place in the sky, water and land in a visual knockout like you rarely see on this level these days. With truly dazzling production elements all around this is a movie hard to resist, even if you think you have already seen what wonders Cameron has in store for this franchise.

James Cameron's semi-amphibious sci-fi franchise is back, with a new chapter even longer, more humourless and cheesily colour-coordinated than the last. That the franchise has already sunk to repeating itself in its third part does not inspire much confidence in the two still to come. Some of us saw a while ago that turning Avatar into a franchise would prove to be a creative cul-de-sac.

Avatar is as gigantically uninteresting and colossally impervious to criticism as ever: a vast, blank edifice that placidly repels objection. The third Avatar chapter erupts with volcanic world-building and thunderous action yet remains a vast, dazzling spectacle in search of an emotional arc.
