Dominic and the Ladies' Purse

The standout aspect of the film is the stellar performances by the cast, with Sushmitha Bhat, Mammootty, Vineeth, and Gokul Suresh delivering exceptional acting that elevates the narrative. Dominic and the Ladies' Purse is an enjoyable film worth watching at least once, a well-crafted blend of suspense, strong performances, and a gripping storyline that leaves a lasting impression.

An engaging Sherlock-esque mystery that keeps you guessing all the way, with Dominic pulled into a dark web of sinister reveals involving a missing persons case, a murder, a stalker, and the mysterious story of a dancer.

The exciting climax makes up for any lethargy one may feel at any point in the film. That said, there are also plot points like the identity of an individual -who do they identify as ? There is no judgement which is fair and hopefully, it is looked at through the same lens by the larger public rather than being used as a tool to discriminate.

While Gautham Vasudev Menon has mostly opted for simple scenarios, almost the entire film is handled in an unrefined manner, lacking a professional touch — almost as if the Mammootty-starrer's made by an amateur. From the very beginning, Dominic and the Ladies' Purse consistently evokes a feeling in us; and that's frustration. It's not that the GVM film is outright terrible, but the sheer carelessness in its execution is so palpable that the movie ultimately feels like a series of wasted opportunities.

Mammootty, aka Mammukka, who was dismissed from the police force for taking bribes allegedly, slips into the role with ease and natural flair. Investigative thrillers are par for the course, especially in Malayalam cinema, but Mammootty's experimental choice to play a simple, regular man elevates this average thriller.
