Heavenly Nomadic Reviews and Ratings
-
Mirlan Abdykalykov’s Heavenly Nomadic tells us the story of a nomadic family living in the mountains of Kyrgystan. Tabyldy, the herdsman, lives with his wife Karachach, daughter-in-law Shaiyr, granddaughter Umsunai, and grandson Ulan who studies architecture in the city. It revolves around the humble lives these nomads choose to live and how unperturbed they are with modern ways. Yet they find themselves clashing off and on with modernity.
Each character is written with detail. Tabyldy struggles to come to terms with the loss of his son. Umsunai takes solace in the stories her grandfather tells her. Karachach is uncomfortable with Shaiyr’s attraction towards Ermek, a meteorologist. Ulan seems to prefer the city to his family’s rural life. Though there are moments when the story loses your attention, the lead actors are impressive and the film is beautifully shot.
