For me, not only is it the best love saga in what, 10 years? And also the best royalty-based saga with intriguing intricacies and royal modernity oozing thorughout. This Ashutosh Gowariker film is unbelievably perfect as a director's experiment on a historical romance- the princess of a Hindu Rajput family in Rajasthan marrying the Mughal Musalmaan emperor of Agra. The film speaks of wedding alliances, wars of honour and bloodshed in the name of religion where it also speaks of a Krishna Temple in a mosque-style Muslim fortress in the Mughal dominated Fathepur and a blossoming, blooming story of love where the lovers stare at the afternoon sky in while laying on floral marble floors. After Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam have I seen such an appealing, moving love story with so rich details and grandeur. But I think 'Jodha Akbar' is a better film put together with its strength.

As a teacher, I have used the movie Jodhaa Akbar to introduce my students to Indian History and the Mughal Empire. Usually, the showing of the movie coincides with a field tip beforehand where the students are in a bus and request to watch a movie during the long bus trip.

You would be amazed at the results! Not only does the bus become quiet as the students read the subtitles, but they enjoy the movie, the plot and the music! The movie teaches justice, moral values and that love conquers all. Last but not least, the movie teaches how a man should treat a woman and vice versa. Every time the movie is over, the students applaud and want to know more about India and its history.

Although there is some violence, I consider the movie appropriate for all audiences.
