Street Fighter delivers high-octane action with Noah Centineo leading the charge, but Vidyut Jammwal’s role leaves much to be desired.

Self-aware silliness carries it only so far when the writing is this thin.

Critic consensus
Critical reception for Street Fighter is mixed, with most reviewers acknowledging the film's self-aware, deliberately silly tone as both its defining quality and its central limitation. Action sequences and visual scale drew some praise, though several critics found the set pieces unremarkable or generic rather than the main attraction they should be. Writing and plotting were widely flagged as weak, with underdeveloped characters and clichéd developments undermining the film's entertainment ambitions. A handful of reviewers suggest the film succeeds on its own modest terms as a lighthearted, unpretentious diversion, while others found it too content with its own ridiculousness to be genuinely fun.

Street Fighter delivers high-octane action with Noah Centineo leading the charge, but Vidyut Jammwal’s role leaves much to be desired.
Film review
What makes Street Fighter such a joy to watch is that it never takes itself seriously. It knows the stakes. But it also knows that, at the end, it is a film about men fighting each other in the street and shooting fireballs out of their wrists. So, fun is the buzzword.
Film review
The film is so committed to its own bubble that its characters rarely feel connected to anything beyond their immediate rivalries. The silliness is intentional, but intention does not make every joke land or every action sequence equally engaging. Still, Street Fighter never promises sophistication and largely delivers on those terms, embracing the ridiculousness of its premise without pretending it is something grander.
Film review
Street Fighter's greatest strength and its greatest weakness are one and the same: it doesn't take itself too seriously. For its specific sub-genre, live-action video game adaptation with a huge ensemble and plenty of action and comedy, Street Fighter commits the cardinal sin of delivering unremarkable action sequences.
Film review
On the whole, STREET FIGHTER scores with its impressive action, grand visuals and fine performances. However, the weak writing and unconvincing developments dilute the impact. The film will appeal mainly to fans of the video game franchise.

What starts off as a promise of an entertaining fantasy adventure turns into a parade of incredibly generic and cliché-ridden action slop that never delivers any fun. The fights should be the main attraction in a film like this. Instead, the set pieces feel like something the film needs to get through before moving on to the next plot point.
Film review
The film features weak plot, strong action, and a 1993 setting.
Film review ·
Street Fighter spends so much time mugging at its own ridiculousness that it never finds the wit or imagination to transcend it, settling instead for a corny exercise in period nostalgia that settles for taking the piss out of itself instead of making something genuinely good. Yet its sheer, unmitigated stupidity and monumental horniness have an undeniable entertainment value, and I suspect time will be considerably kinder to it than its opening reviews.

Poor plot, choppy edits dampen punches in otherwise perfect action flick...
Film review ·
After a strong start, Kitao Sakurai's Capcom adaptation nosedives into nonsense. However, the deft combination of punchy dialogue, tongue-in-cheek stunt casting and formally audacious video game effects paves the path for a second half that doesn't remotely cohere. It's a film at war with itself, in which a straightforward narrative about strained brotherhood is spread far too thin across unconnected snippets of action and comedy that grow increasingly disparate.
