The Idea of You

The Idea of You has no idea of how to take it forward, or to even leave it sideways. It just drifts along, only randomly hitting some right notes. Of the film's many crimes, the worst may be suggesting Hathaway is past her prime.

Anne Hathaway delivers a deceptively fine-tuned performance in Prime Video's steamy, seductive romantic drama. The Idea of You is an unexpectedly adult romantic drama featuring excellent central performances that more than make up for its shortcomings, with genuine sexual tension and mature conversations that elevate it beyond typical streaming romance fare.

Anne Hathaway shines in this steamy, electric coming-of-age romantic comedy that delivers charm and chemistry between its leads.

With Hathaway at its centre, The Idea of You is on far surer footing, in small moments almost threatening to be something far greater but settling into being perfectly acceptable instead, a plane movie par excellence. It's all not ultimately enough to truly transport us back to the genre's heyday but it's a damn sight better than what we've been forced to get used to.
