Director and co-writer Matt Johnson has frustratingly taken liberties with a formative period in Bourdain's life, but still only manages to tell the story of how a callow lad became somewhat of a less callow lad after toiling in a restaurant kitchen on Cape Cod in 1975. But "Tony" fails as an origin story. The cook is off.

"GOAT" is not as funny as it thinks it is and tiresome in its overly familiar redemption arc. While not as bad as "Space Jam," it is an air ball none the same.
Weapons

"Weapons" is his sophomore effort and it's more ambitious than his first, "Barbarian." But it often lags and slackens on its way to a gruesome end, with a reliance on sorcery that seems like a cop-out. If "Barbarian" came out of left field three years ago and heralded an exciting new voice in filmmaking, "Weapons" doesn't disappoint but it doesn't have the advantage of surprise.
