Apart from being a great movie The Jungle Book is also another big triumph for Disney. It seems whatever Disney touches turns to gold. It’s hard to think of another studio that has had so much universal acclaim and financial success for such a long stretch of time. With Moana and Rogue One coming later this year it certainly seems like Disney has made sure we’re in for a ton of fun.

Dreamworks have taken their visual palette to another level with this movie – the imagery is richly detailed and deeply memorable.

After Man of Steel, Snyder had this one chance to redeem himself, and he blew it spectacularly. With the future of the franchise, including the Justice League movies in his hands, it’s truly a dark and depressing time for DC fans.

The film’s other fatal flaw is that it takes itself very seriously – this is a distraction when you’re aware that everything that’s happening in the film is either improbable or stupid. Even a wee bit of self awareness would probably have made Heist passable as a movie that is so bad it is fun, unfortunately as things stand this is a movie that is so bad that it is unwatchable.

The Program may be familiar plot wise but still holds your attention because what the man did is pretty disturbing (he carried stacks of his own blood during the race in plastic boxes to transfuse before the post race blood tests). Foster also does a great job of portraying a man who just wants to win, no matter what happens. It’s a testament to Foster’s performance that you do feel a sliver of sympathy for the character because he’s going against the grain.

There’s little suspense or mystery, and the huge star cast does little to stand out – you could replace one actor with another in the heist gang and there would make absolutely no difference to the way the movie plays out.

With life lessons and smart characters, this Disney film is a superb watch…

The Revenant, therefore, is not just a film but a demonstration of how far the filmmaker can go visually. Every frame in the film can be printed out, framed and hung on a wall. The atmosphere built into the film is brutal enough to permeate from the screen.

The title is absurd but the film isn’t absurd enough. What we have is a tiresome jaunt of faux English accents bleached in a substandard Victorian dye.

This is not the kind of movie you should take your date to for fun, but it’s one that makes you question your faith in your religious institution and the morality of those attached to it. It’s heavy stuff for sure, but stuff that must definitely be seen and discussed.
