• It’s a nice, original rom-com with a sci-fi twist. How often do you come across something like that?

  • War Chhod Na Yaar succeeds in treating a grim subject with a light hand. Sharman Joshi and Javed Jaffrey are in good form, but the script loses steam well before the finish line. I’m going with two-and-a-half out of five. It’s not extraordinary, but it’s got some clever ideas.

  • It’s the sort of film best enjoyed on DVD. If you have to take a call during the film, don’t worry; chances are you’d have missed nothing.

  • Like the cheap tabloids that routinely peddled salacious tidbits of her alleged private life, this film too is a hack job.

  • For all its slick technical wizardry, Gravity is about hope and courage and the will to come out alive. To best enjoy it, go in with patience and an open mind. I’m going with four-and-a-half out of five.

  • …the look and feel of the film tacky, and the scatological humor mostly off-putting. I’m going with one out of five for Besharam. A major misfire in every way.

  • The budget’s bigger and the special effects are slicker, but this is a blockbuster with a brain. Best enjoyed with a big helping of popcorn.

  • Despite an overlong final act, Prisoners is a remarkable exploration of characters under pressure. Packed with surprising twists, it keeps you guessing until the end. I’m going with four out of five. Don’t miss it.

  • The only thing truly baffling is that this film is supposedly based on true events. Which means morons like these actually existed!

  • The film’s early half is a little too schmaltzy, crammed as it is with too many scenes that point to Oscar’s kind heart and potential that sadly couldn’t be fully realized. It’s meant to make the gut punch of the film’s climax that much harder. But it doesn’t matter, because the first-rate acting, and the knowledge that this actually happened makes this a deeply moving film. I’m going with three-and-a-half out of five for ‘Fruitvale Station’. It’s a story that deserved to be told, because it’s an issue that refuses to go away.
