• If you like ‘grim dystopian sci-fi films’, Catching Fire is a spectacular ‘edge-of-the-seat’ thriller, which is unnerving, emotionally intense and immensely engaging. Unlike most sequels, Francis Lawrence ensures that his installment is not just a remake. While the first focussed on the deadly games, this one’s more about the political moves and strategies.

  • There’s a lovely line that Olaf, the snowman, says in the film – Some people are worth melting for. Likewise, even if you are not too fond of snow, some love stories are worth freezing for! Do not miss out on this magical journey of love and self-discovery.

  • …is tense and intriguing. If you haven’t seen the previous film, this might work better for you. Also, for the fainthearted, if you analyze your dreams way too much or face sleep disorders, stay away.

  • To cut a long story short, Boss solely relies on Akshay’s star power and he carries the film on his shoulders with aplomb. It’s his dialoguebazi and filmygiri that make you smile, no matter how corny the one-liners.

  • There are films and then there’s Gravity. For an edge-of-the-seat-rollercoaster-ride experience, watch it only in IMAX 3D.

  • No matter how gripping, Elysium is no match for Blomkamp’s hard-hitting District 9. Scenes of the protagonist Max running around, trying to get help from the thugs featured here, become repetitive.

  • What adds to the film’s brilliance is its astounding cinematography, be it the wheel-to-wheel, rain-soaked racing or crash scenes. Performances are supremely authentic as well. Both Hemsworth and Bruhl play their parts with utmost perfection. Background score creates the psychological tension required.

  • We’re the Millers is a predictable but funny road trip movie that’s loaded with sexual expletives. In spite of the occasional silliness, it does make you laugh.
Note: You may not like this film if adult humour grosses you out.

  • Most horror films claim to be ‘based on real life incidents’. While they rarely live up to the hype around them, The Conjuring is an exception. The atmosphere build-up begins even before the film does, as a disclaimer is flashed before the opening credits, warning you that you might seek psychological help after watching the movie. The strategy works, as the film can scare the living daylights out of you. While we didn’t feel the need to undergo any counselling, unsettling it certainly was.

  • Despicable Me 2 is heartwarmingly entertaining just like its prequel, if not better. More than anything else, the story has a heart. With the world getting cynical by the day, the film provides that much needed sense of goodness.
