• Since the story is anyway on thin ice, it just meanders initially before settling in for a decent climax. While the colorful animation looks good, there isn’t enough to back it as far as the plot is concerned. This Plane is certainly on auto-pilot.

  • Vir Das is best suited as a supporting actor, he can’t quite carry off a film on his own but Vega Tamotia shows some spark. Amit Sahni Ki List tries hard to achieve something but ends up being listless.

  • The Tamil version relatively is more taut and gripping, this one is not junk food but it is just about edible.

  • The leading lady doesn’t leave much of mark on her performance and Sushant Singh does the scowling and growling that is demanded of him. From being a tale of retribution Hate Story 2 ends up as a farce.

  • Subtlety is the key here and it makes allegorical references rather than hammer down what it is has to say. And this is not just a story of friendship between humans and animals, there is more to it. At times the apes behave like humans and vice versa. As evolution has proved, there is after all a thin line between us and our predecessors.

  • Thanks to the sloppy writing in the second half, the film seems much longer than 135
minutes. A tribute to DDLJ is fine but it doesn’t have to be an unimaginative one. Ultimately, it is the characters that drive the film and a fair amount of laughs are generated by Humpty’s two friends. As a trend in recent times we have seen that the women character’s are not stereotypes and it applies to this film as well- as a larger reflection of the societal issues, the three generations of ladies are seen discussing male issues, in one of the best scenes.

  • The special effects are impressive, now if only they had they had a decent plot to back it up.

  • Siddharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor are competent on the acting front but it is Riteish Deshmukh who pulls up a surprise. We know that he has a knack for comedy but he pulls off this role as well with admiration.

Like most plagiarized films, Ek Villain also misses bull’s eye.

  • The films story could well be Favreau’s in one way, he directed couple of independent films made some main stream pictures and now is back to making simple yet heartwarming films. Chef will leave you satisfied like you had the most sumptuous meal in a while.

  • Having endured Himmatwala, it appeared that your creative juices had dried up and it couldn’t have got any worse. But sadly, we were wrong.

Make no mistake, I was well prepared for all eventualities. I practiced sitting on a cactus for two and a half hours every day to get myself ready for it. What I wasn’t prepared for was being water boarded at the same time.
