Amaran

Sivakarthikeyan brings the seriousness and honour needed for his role. Sai Pallavi delivers an exceptional performance, capturing Indhu's emotional journey.

Rajkumar Periasamy needs a huge salute for making a subtle but incredibly touching ode to a soldier. Amaran is a beautiful film because it tells not only the story of Major Mukund but also that of Indhu. Amaran is a perfect example of a film where strong writing is matched by equally skilled technical execution.

The film is a fitting tribute to the valour and sacrifice of Major Mukund.

With wonderful performances by Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, Amaran is a poignant yet powerful tale about Major Mukund Varadarajan's love for India, and his wife Indhu. While Indhu's love for Mukund is beautifully etched out, we only get glimpses of the same from Mukund's end. After a point, it almost feels like a generic tale of any soldier rather than the tale of Major Mukund Varadarajan.

All said and done, there is no denying that Amaran is a worthy tribute to the legacy of Major Mukund Varadarajan. Even with all the glitches in between, the film makes us cherish and celebrate Mukund and the courageous officer he was.

Amaran is effective as an intimate, well researched piece of storytelling, but does not break any new ground. The film rarely makes noise around the notion of nationhood and overt-preachy patriotism, but it is hindered by cardboard villains, tonal imbalance, and reliance on well-established clichés of military films.
