Critic consensus
Critical reception for Anbil Avan is mixed, with most reviewers acknowledging that the film's romantic and emotional core holds genuine appeal, particularly the chemistry between its lead pair. The film is most commonly praised for its promising first half, which blends romance with building tension. However, a near-consensus criticism targets the prolonged, monotonous action-heavy climax, which multiple critics describe as exhausting and unconvincing, undermining the emotional groundwork laid earlier. The screenplay's logical gaps and its failure to credibly transition from domestic drama to full-scale action are recurring complaints.

Film review
Anbil Avan works best when it combines the emotional side of its relationship with the suspense surrounding the couple. The film makes a sincere attempt to blend romance, family emotions, mystery and action, emerging as a reasonably engaging watch with a few memorable moments.
Film review
Anbil Avan starts out like a straightforward romance. It later shifts into something tense once the action and thriller side shows up. It's the chemistry between the two that keeps the emotional side of the story interesting even as the film shifts into thriller mode.
Film review
Yet, the film fails to capitalise on his rizz as it transforms into a monotonous action photoplay. These loopholes, and many more, undermine the overall intensity of the screenplay. Yet, in the end, Anbil Avan leaves us with a husband worth keeping and a film worth ghosting.
Film review
Anbil Avan makes running a homestay look like a job that requires combat training. It begins with a couple shopping for a place in the hills and ends with one of them hacking through a private army, and the film never builds a believable bridge between the two. What it gets is a chain of conveniences and caricatures.
Film review ·
Anbil Avan, a romantic thriller set in a hill station in Tamil Nadu, begins well with a commitment to love, life, dreams, and dignity. But all of it comes undone in its jejune 30-minute climax, where punch after punch and killing after killing test the audience's frankly infinite patience. The second half is a blur, ending with a tireless 30-minute action sequence that leaves audiences uninterested and annoyed.
