Critic consensus

What 6 critics are saying

Critics received 'Dada' with moderate warmth, praising its blend of emotion, comedy, and a heartfelt take on gender-neutral parenthood. The writing was widely commended for landing emotional beats and weaving in humour without becoming maudlin. The main reservation across reviews was the conventional, familiar treatment of the screenplay, with some critics noting that greater novelty in how the story unfolds would have elevated the film. The performances and likeable characters were seen as assets that helped carry the familiar material.

  1. New Indian Express

    Film review ·

Dada is almost like a marriage between a Radha Mohan film and a Selavaraghavan film. The film is emotional but is equally fun with a strong undercurrent of tasteful humour. Such good writing is ably handled by its impressive cast.
  2. Ottplay

    Film review

The sequences and conflicts in the film aren't completely new, but the manner in which they are entertainingly presented with the right mix of emotions deserves praise. Dada's target seems to be young audience, but the right packaging of emotions and instantly likeable characters are adequate enough to attract all sections of audience.
  3. Times Of India

    Film review

Kavin's Dada is one such film that has its emotions in the right place. It demonstrates the battles that Manikandan (Kavin) faces while trying to make a good life for himself and his child, with some lighter moments. Overall, Dada is a well-written drama with the right mix of comedy, emotion, and love.
  4. India Today

    Film review ·

DaDa is one film that has managed to capture the balance to a large extent. Director Ganesh K Babu's DaDa has weaved a heartfelt story that is layered and addresses a lot of issues. DaDa is a heartwarming film that talks about parenting and relationship woes.
  5. Hindustan Times

    Film review ·

The most refreshing aspect of DaDa is that it sends out a very important message loud and clear – parenthood is gender neutral. As much as DaDa is emotional at times, it's also thoroughly enjoyable thanks to the use of humour to lighten the mood, and the writing deserves a lot of praise as the film stays away from predictable moments.
  6. The Hindu

    Film review ·

In DaDa, debutant Ganesh K Babu writes a solid storyline with this and the film is impressive despite the conventional treatment of the screenplay. Most of the emotional beats land well, and if only for a bit more novelty in how the story progresses, DaDa might have become more than what it settled to be. It nevertheless is an effort that is definitely worth a watch.
