In spite of some rough edges, especially how the film does lose its purpose in the second half, Thunivu holds good for most part because of Ajith's wild performance of a character that's both a hero and villain.

It is this formula that makes the film highly enjoyable, but at the same time uses the concept of time-loop in such a way that it never leaves the audiences wondering what's happening.

Nelson whips up a deliciously wicked dark comedy that works despite its predictable plot and twists. Even the most mundane scenes are elevated thanks to the quirky treatment. Despite a slightly predictable second half, Doctor stays afloat because of the way it uses humour to make every cliched sequence feel fresh.

Mari Selvaraj's film is heartwarming and gut-wrenching in equal parts. Child actor Ponvel M as Sivanendhan is the show-stealer. The writing, cinematography, and music aid the story in leaving the intended impact.

Custody is one of those action films that never realise their potential and get lost midway. It wastes a lot of time initially in the scenes between Chaitanya and Krithi Shetty. If only all this excessive flab was removed and the story only focused on Shiva, Raju and all those men who are after them, this would've been a cracker of an action-thriller.

Dasara pretty much uses every trick that's been used before when it comes to such stories. However, it still manages to leave a strong impact because of how it succeeds in sucking you into a world you haven't experienced before. Nani turns in such a believable performance and he sells his quest for revenge so convincingly.

At best, it can be described as KGF's poor cousin that's all style but has no soul. Even though cut from the same cloth as KGF, Upendra's Kabzaa hardly makes any impact, let alone entertain. It's unarguably one of the lousiest attempts in the name of making pan-Indian cinema.

The most refreshing aspect of DaDa is that it sends out a very important message loud and clear – parenthood is gender neutral. As much as DaDa is emotional at times, it's also thoroughly enjoyable thanks to the use of humour to lighten the mood, and the writing deserves a lot of praise as the film stays away from predictable moments.

It's not the story or the performances that really keep one invested in the film. It's the pure madness the action sequences bring to the big screen viewing experience along with SS Thaman's electric background score that makes Veera Simha Reddy likable to a large extent. If not for Balakrishna's energetic screen presence, which makes the most mundane scenes fun to watch, this would've been a tiresome watch.
