Game Night Reviews and Ratings
-
Game Night isn’t perfect, and an electric first hour gives way to a slow third act that’s handicapped by the gimmick wearing thin and a too-earnest side plot about Max and Annie’s shifting plans to have a kid. But it kind of redeems itself by the end with a series of twists and turns fitting of the absurd premise.

This dark comedy mystery isn’t as polished as something like a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but it’s nice to see this kind of an irreverent film in an era where comedy movies compromise on intellect or craft. This is a rare comedy that doesn’t require you to wade through the muck to find one or two laughs — it’s a genuinely well made film with repeat value, so head to the theaters now.

The filmmaker duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein employ the same irreverence they used when they co-wrote ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and deliver a ludicrous laugh-riot with ‘Game Night’. So go ahead and revel in the craziness of this film as it takes you for a sweet, silly ride.

A combination of some nifty directing, winsome acting, and some genuine laughs make Game Night as entertaining a film as one with such limited goals can get.
