Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos

The trouble with so many ideas jostling in the film is that very little gets to breathe. Just as something is about to settle in, off it darts in another direction. The result is a film running around in circles, in search of itself, where the silliness mostly doesn't land.

The sheer silliness keeps the film buoyant and consistently entertaining. Ultimately, though, the film rests squarely on Vir Das' shoulders. His timing, exaggerated diction and willingness to embrace ridiculousness keep the narrative afloat and engaging.

Vir Das's Happy Patel breaks traditional spy film clichés with humour and heart. The film's unique blend of genres offers an entertaining, madcap cinematic experience.

Vir Das rocks as the agent of comic chaos in this mad-fun spy comedy. The tightly packed laugh riot's eccentric characters and absurd situations will keep you entertained.

Happy Patel is not supposed to make sense, and doesn't even pretend to. But most of the time, it is trying too hard -- which ruins any comedy -- and the jokes fall flat. With his screen presence and enviable comic talent, Vir Das deserves a better film.

This blah black comedy makes calamities like Bangistan, Santa Banta Pvt. Ltd., and the likes look nutritious in comparison. Maybe co-producer Aamir Khan was conned into believing he was making a second Delhi Belly, his 2011 dark delight that is now a cult classic, especially compared to this crappy, confused concoction.
