Maharaja is an audacious attempt that breaks down the tropes of a crime film with a brilliant Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. Maharaja is a surprisingly novel outing, rejuvenating the tired tropes of revenge films with a morally challenging revelation in the final hour, that compensates for the little contrivances in the writing.

Vijay Sethupathi is wonderful in his 50th film, and he has a well-written role at his disposal. The makers have definitely put in extra effort in conceptualising his character, as almost all the actions that he does and almost all the dialogues that he says have a payoff.

Vijay Sethupathi rocks in this dark entertainer. Kudos to director Nithilan Saminathan for etching out realistic characters including baddies and suggesting that the society is not safe for women and danger lurking over them from unsuspecting quarters.
