Writer and director Magizh Thirumeni's film shines thanks to excellent character work and focused storytelling.

With the first half, the seeds of a genuinely good film are sown. But in the second half, the film settles for a combination of standard action beats, a road that is more familiar, a road not so full of narrative joys or surprises.

Vidaamuyarchi, existing in this form, is a fascinating addition to the evolving standards of superstar films in Tamil cinema. It shows that difference has to come from top down, and when superstars like Ajith decide to play roles rather than images, and surrenders to the vision of directors like Magizh who have a distinct voice of their own, the result is there for everyone to see.

Ajith's performance, along with the rest of the star cast, is top-notch, action sequences and the background score elevate the essence, riveting plotline, no meandering sub-plots, and cinematography ticks the right boxes.
