It’s an experience that veers to off-putting and may not develop the kind of excitement this film hopes to generate!

The Death Cure can’t really explore this to any great length given the limitations in which it operates, and given that at least twice, it has to turn to cranes or helicopters to lift a train coach and bus full of children out of harm’s way as a plot turner.
Still, as this franchise too winds to a close, some marks to it for trying.

If you’re a fan of the franchise, enjoy watching ‘save the world from the apocalypse’ type of action thrillers and have been following the story over the years, this finale might be of interest to you.

The final movie in the young adult trilogy is neither as satisfying as Harry Potter nor as campy as Twilight, but for its fans, that shouldn’t matter.

There were elements of horror and mystery in the previous installments — which set it apart from boring siblings like the Divergent films — and had director Wes Ball employed a similar small scale approach this could actually have been a worthwhile revisit to the film’s world. The zombie stuff is present but treated with a blockbuster palette — and by going with big scale action set pieces set in generic beats the film becomes an overlong and unworthy finale to something that seemed like it had potential. At this point we should just be thankful that the film wasn’t split in two climactic parts like many of its peers.
