Pichaikkaran 2

The film doesn't offer any innovative story or performances, but its packaging works to a decent extent which makes it a one-time watchable fare.

Though there are some mass moments that work, like in the first part, the only disappointment is that they are very few in number. Pichaikkaran 2, unlike its predecessor, goes a bit far from reality right from the very first scene. Overall, Pichaikkaran 2 doesn't really beg for our attention and nearly manages to hold us for an average watch.

Pichaikkaran 2 lacks believability. The visual effects are tacky, the story travels haphazardly. Vijay Antony's limited expressions do not help as well. Pichaikkaran 2 is a dull attempt at storytelling.

Unfortunately, this over-ambitious genre-blender is mounted on fragile, uninventive writing and sadly, the result is a total opposite of the much-loved prequel. The much-teased second half turns out to be a major letdown as the story takes a complete U-turn and becomes a tedious, fanciful lecture on poverty eradication.

Pichaikkaran 2 is the kind of film where you'll find a shot of a poor woman with flies in her mouth to underline the point that there is abject poverty in this country, and then three more such shots that tell us that there is abject poverty in this country. Poverty is, of course, a relevant subject but unfortunately the astounding laziness with which Vijay proceeds to tell this story only exposes the poverty of his imagination.

Vijay Antony fails to pull off a silly and dated Shankar film. For some time now even Ajith and Vijay have been steering clear of these one-man-saves-all films, and there was a respite from the nonsense. The break is over with Pichaikkaran 2.
