What 5 critics are saying

Critics are divided on Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire, with reactions ranging from moderate appreciation to clear frustration. The film's elaborate world-building, visceral action sequences, and visual craftsmanship drew the most consistent praise. However, multiple critics flagged an excessive runtime, drawn-out slow-motion sequences, and repetitive character build-up as significant weaknesses. The result is a film that satisfies fans of large-scale action entertainers while leaving others numbed by its relentless violence and indulgent pacing.

The mind-numbing power of unrelenting violence is on full display over all of three hours in the unabashedly gory Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire. All the blood-letting that the film revels in has a somniferous effect on the audience, lulling it into a desensitised state that serves to make the shocks somewhat palatable.

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is definitely not a perfect film, but it passes with flying colors in the genre of mass entertainers. With good elevation scenes, adrenaline rush moments, and Prabhas' angry young man avatar, the film does its job of entertaining you.

The film is definitely a cinephile's paradise, with the visuals acting as an early Christmas present. The world building in Salaar is absolutely fantastic, with the lifestyle, rules and regulations, politics, religion, rituals, beliefs, and many more being successfully conveyed to the audience. However, the biggest drawback of the film is its runtime, with several slow-motion sequences that make scenes feel dragged out.

Salaar is tailored to cater to lovers of mass action entertainers. There is a lot of indulgent 'build up' with nearly every character — the mother, Obulamma, Rama, the businessman who fears for his daughter Aadya, the children, and several aides — talks in exalted terms about Deva at regular intervals. At one point, I wanted the film to cut the chase and tell us what makes him a fiery warlord.
