Thithi
2016 · Firstpost · Aug 2016
His organic approach reflects in the film. The story uses death as a tool to make a statement on life in all its shades, while staying true to the world it is set in. Art and form couldn't be a more potent mix than in Thithi.

Bajirao Mastani
2015 · Firstpost · Dec 2015
...may not be perfect but is a memorable, mesmerizing and dazzling piece of cinematic vision.

Angry Indian Goddesses
2015 · Firstpost · Dec 2015
Hell hath no fury like a woman teased or disrespected. The film has all the right intentions and ideas and actors but it's just not effective enough. Between celebrating womanhood and showing their inequality angst, the story loses steam halfway.

X: Past Is Present
2015 · Firstpost · Nov 2015
Considering how ambitious the intention is, in attempting to diversify the film into various genres and interpretations of love, it is commendable that the present life of K is well tied up with all the other stories set in the past. It just about makes it a watchable, cohesive whole, though not necessarily something that makes sense.

Spectre
2015 · Firstpost · Nov 2015
This 007 is neither shaken nor stirred, but simply frozen in time.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
2015 · Firstpost · Nov 2015
Not surprisingly, this Barjatya film is as nice, predictable, old fashioned and sweet as a Diwali laddoo. Full of emotionally engaging, PG-rated Prem leela.

Main Aur Charles
2015 · Firstpost · Oct 2015
You don't really mind the missing hard-boiled plot, because by the time the film ends, we are treated to well-shot frames and the amazing theme music. Style wins. The seduction is complete.

Titli
2015 · Firstpost · Oct 2015
Whether Titli, the reluctant brother, transforms into a butterfly and flies away or not, there is certainly no escaping from Behl's non-apologetic, brutal and bloody tale.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2
2015 · Firstpost · Oct 2015
Men, be ready to relate. At times. Women, be ready to hate. All the time. Hopefully, you can laugh it all off. Together.

Jazbaa
2015 · Firstpost · Oct 2015
An fairly interesting plot kicks in. An official remake of Korean film, Seven Days, the screenplay moves fast in a gripping enough thriller mode. Gupta displays his old penchant for slick action and weaves a fairly engrossing tale.

Bhaag Johnny
2015 · Firstpost · Sep 2015
Somewhere near the beginning of Bhaag Johnny, we see young Johnny (Kunal Khemu) sitting in a plush hotel room in Pattaya, bewildered and helpless, with a gun in hand. Right till the end of the film, he stays that way—Johnny from nowhere, whose only specialty is being able to woo women.

Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu
2015 · Firstpost · Sep 2015
The one good thing about KKPK is the pace at which Abbas-Mustan keep the film moving. Given more believable situations and lines, they might have done better. Meanwhile, if the sight of Kumar hanging on a wall and bringing in the moon, makes you laugh, go watch KKPK, but at your own risk.

Katti Batti
2015 · Firstpost · Sep 2015
For those ever hopeful ones who are star struck by Kangana Ranaut's brilliance in Tanu Weds Manu Returns, brace yourselves for the tragedy of the year. All you get to see in Katti Batti are Ranaut's dozen bangles, rings, anklets, a pretty tattoo, numerous wigs and her nice legs.

Hero
2015 · Firstpost · Sep 2015
With an equally lacklustre soundtrack, Hero is old wine in older bottles. One is better off, sipping the original one with the unforgettable Lata Mangeshakar's, "Pyaar karne waale kabhi darte nahin".

Welcome Back
2015 · Firstpost · Sep 2015
Welcome Back kicks up a storm of utter nonsense thanks to terrific comic timing by Patekar and Kapoor. And it happens to be a welcome break from 24/7 coverage of murder, financial crashes and other serious news — purely because of the two talented actors who hop, skip, dance and fool around with complete conviction.

Phantom
2015 · Firstpost · Aug 2015
If you're in Mumbai, go down to Colaba and take a walk alongside the Taj Mahal Hotel. Watch the tourists and remember for a moment the images of the hotel's distinctive dome with plumes of black smoke winding out of it. It'll be more poignant than 147 minutes of Phantom.

Kaun Kitne Paani Mein
2015 · Firstpost · Aug 2015
...despite its pitfalls, Kaun Kitney Paani Mein has moments of fun and a subject that is relevant. Watch it for Saurabh Shukla.

All Is Well
2015 · Firstpost · Aug 2015
Growing up with parents who are constantly at each other's throats isn't easy. A child could deal with this situation by becoming an escapist who distances himself from the parents. But is that a solution? This is the premise — and a thoroughly interesting one — of Shukla's All is Well. That's the good part. And it ends there.

Gour Hari Dastaan
2015 · Firstpost · Aug 2015
In it's honest storytelling, the deep significance and relevance of Gour Hari Dastaan stays with you. Especially since it's an Independence Day release. Just look at how today, the flag for which Das fought is sold at traffic signals. "Paanch ka teen" anyone?

Mr. Holmes
2015 · Firstpost · Jul 2015
Ian McKellen charms in this slow, elegant look at a detective in retirement. In the fan fiction that is Mr. Holmes, the world's most famous detective, God may be old. But it's not time to say goodbye. Instead say hello to a new Holmes who is now all heart, mind and soul. Older, wiser, warmer, with much amusing ado made about his distinctive hat.

Masaan
2015 · Firstpost · Jul 2015
Poignant, tender and beautiful, this Cannes winner is a portrait of small-town India...

Bajrangi Bhaijaan
2015 · Firstpost · Jul 2015
Does this simple story bordering on the dumb with a simpleton character work? Strangely, yes. Thanks to Khan's uncharacteristic convincing performance and intelligent direction by the Ek Tha Tiger director who seemed to have forgotten his craft after his first film, Kabul Express.

I Love New Year
2015 · Firstpost · Jul 2015
I Love NY takes its own sweet time coming to its predictable end, and you can only sit back and note irrelevant details — like Ranaut's three costumes and debate over Deol wearing a wig, counting his age and wishing him more suitable roles. It is to their credit that both Ranaut and Deol give their unconvincing parts their own best. Maybe, Mr Kumar is right. Film "nikal jayegi". Just maybe.

Papanasam
2015 · Firstpost · Jul 2015
The film may be in Tamil but is likely to appeal equally to the Hindi cinegoer. Papanasam is a great reminder of why we go to the movies: to be entertained and stay emotionally engaged.Regional language should not keep you away, irrespective of upcoming Hindi remake, Drishyam.

Guddu Rangeela
2015 · Firstpost · Jul 2015
This colourless, Arshad Warsi film fails to strike a chord...

The Duff
2015 · Firstpost · Jun 2015
Whitman sparkles and shines with her comic delivery. Her camaraderie with the very likeable Amell is enough to brighten a predictable script. The spirited students win The Duff an A, despite its lazy and easy treatment. So what if there is no one really fat or ugly here and we just have one more label?

Hamari Adhuri Kahani
2015 · Firstpost · Jun 2015
This is a journey of pain: the pain of watching the talented Balan struggling to justify a badly-written role; the pain of seeing the director of Arth stuck in a time warp and refusing to grow out of a poor-me syndrome; the pain of watching Bhatt kill the memorable Kahaani girl of Ooh La La land with the that mighty Indian weapon: the mangalsutra.

What We Did on Our Holiday
2015 · Firstpost · Jun 2015
Between the three little monsters and the two family comedians, there is much fun to be had at grandpa's birthday. One thing is guaranteed after watching What We Did On Our Holiday: you may not be keen on brats, but you will be sold on the idea of a holiday in Scotland.

San Andreas
2015 · Firstpost · May 2015
They call it disaster movie, but really, the genre that San Andreas belongs to is the "OMG!" film. Whether it's in 3D or 2D, no matter where the film is set or what disaster the heroes have to encounter, the defining moments of an OMG! film are more identical than monozygotic twins.

Bombay Velvet
2015 · Firstpost · May 2015
...tries too hard to be a Taj Mahal. Ultimately, though, it just ends up feeling like monumental vanity.
