It is a tad disappointing that the well-orchestrated film isn’t as well-nuanced. Resting solely on the acting prowess of the lead man and the charisma of the subject isn’t enough in a good film. This one had potential but the screenplay doesn’t justify it. Here’s on of those films that will get registers ringing, families will flock to the theaters, make it to DVD shelves but fails to be pathbreaking cinema. The subject deserved better, Dhoni deserved better but in a country, where offence is our favourite tool, it is best to play safe. So what if it’s not the explosive style he is known for.

It is a riveting courtroom drama that makes you want to stop blinking so as to not miss even a moment. We all are familiar with the incidents that could’ve triggered the story but Pink is a film that will be memorable for the impact it creates. Are women equal? Not even close but there is hope for change. Let’s make a beginning.

If you have to settle for a half-baked story for the sake of all this,  I say it ain’t a bad bet.

It is clichéd, never quite as unpredictable as you would expect it to be, but Akira does a darn good job of holding your attention. By giving Bollywood a lady who can pack a punch and can knock out in a blow, the director salvages the situation. Sona and Kashyap keep you glued till the end. If you are looking for some familiar entertainment, it is here but the tables have turned, thankfully. Meet the hero – Sonakshi, you are kickass girl.

The only reason we recommend you watch this film is because it is a breezy romantic comedy that keeps melodrama at bay. It is a rare movie that only wants you to leave the theatre with a smile and does a sincere job at it. Are we happy? Well, yes almost.  

Rustom is an strange mix of funny and dull but it is never as gluing one would’ve hoped.

It is a good looking, pacy movie that flaunts bling, stunts and babes. Dishoom is well made and is a hell lot of fun. 

Sultan is perfectly watchable, Salman’s star power gives the film an edge but it is still an opportunity lost. Expect it to get the cash registers ringing but Sultan will be forgotten after two helpings of Eid’s biryani.

Udta Punjab loses steam towards the end. Trimmer editing could’ve saved the story but then again how perfectly can you make a film about the imperfect situation in Punjab. This film comes the closest to it. We recommend you take a trip down this trippy road that pierces its point into you. Get a rush guys, that’s the way cinema is meant to be enjoyed. This is the real kick, minus the superstar antics…

As you exit the theatre misty-eyed, you are overwhelmed by the story. You come out believing that dreams do come true. And hardwork assures you a better chance at it than luck.
