Ghayal Returns isn’t unwatchable – far from it. But it’s old-fashioned and evokes a distinct sense of déjà vu.

For some, the promise of two Sunny Leones for the price of one may be enough to invest in a ticket of Mastizaade. But believe me, there is such a thing as too much heaving bosom and jiggling backside. I found myself cringing more than laughing at the film’s idea of outrageous, adult humor.

Joy is a misfire, no questions asked. A crushing bore of a film from a director who has shown he’s capable of so much more.

The half star is strictly for those poor animals who shouldn’t have to suffer in vain.

…was ready to sprint for the exit just so I didn’t have to endure another minute of this sloppy, misguided movie. Shabana Azmi and Juhi Chawla’s charming presence and sincere performances aside, this could well turn out to be one of the year’s most forgettable films.

In the end Wazir is moody and atmospheric, and gripping for a large part. What it needed was a tighter script with fewer holes.

Doesn’t help either that the film clocks in at a butt-numbing 155 minutes. I got up to leave at three different points that I imagined were the climax, only to discover that there was still more to come. Never a good sign when you’re looking at your watch instead of the screen.

Tamasha doesn’t come together satisfactorily, but it’s not for a lack of trying. There’s a lot to appreciate here, and more than a few moments that’ll break your heart.

Aside from a few moments of great power – Jess walks into an elevator and straight into her daughter’s murderer, who’s just been let go – the film feels surprisingly generic. It neither raises the ‘creepy’ factor to Zodiac levels, nor does it leave you pondering its moral dilemmas the way Prisoners did.

These are small mercies in a wildly inconsistent film that seesaws unevenly between charming and WTF! It’s especially disappointing coming from the very writers and director that gave us last year’s terrific Queen. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
