With its subtle scares, Jessabelle starts out really well. It’s the abrupt, illogical ending that spoils the fun. However, if you like unconventional horror films, you can still watch this one on a lonely afternoon.

In spite of being presented in an unhurried, episodic manner, you will not find this over two-hour long docu-style indie film sluggish, for it showcases the minutiae of everyday life beautifully. No wonder Linklater said, “You’ve never seen a movie exactly like this, and you may not again. It is a life project.”

A Decent Arrangement draws inspiration from Nagesh Kukunoor’s much acclaimed Hyderabad Blues but ends up being nothing more than a decent attempt at showing what has already been shown before.

Nightcrawler is tense and appalling, yet strangely funny, intriguing and engaging at the same time. Watch it.

Overall, the ‘darkness’ stays on for way too long, thanks to the troubled characters and their complicated relationships. If you are attracted to such melancholia, go for this one.

Beautiful visuals are another asset. A scene shot in a lake where the actress is shown to be rotating and floating in water is liberating – a metaphor for letting go of fixed notions and following your heart. The film has a lot of hidden messages like these, which unfortunately get overshadowed by an overdose of mush and superficial love scenes that get massive footage.

Those who are not hooked onto Hollywood films won’t mind watching (former actor) Kamal Sadanah’s ambitious directorial debut, which can be applauded for its novelty and decent VFX. Kamal has dared to make an animal-centric thriller, a genre unexplored in Bollywood.

…film is somewhat like a Bollywoodised version of the Final Destination series. As horror, it partially works but as a slasher, gets too monotonous and repetitive…old wine in an old bottle.

The film has a good concept but lacks the vibrancy and spirit of the city it is set in. Overall, it faces ‘connectivity’ issues.
