Troy Ribeiro's Film Reviews
-
This is a heart-warming funny film that may well be a bit abstract for children, but would definitely appeal to the rest.
-
The title is an acronym for “The Designated Ugly Fat Friend”, whose drivel drives the plot. It is a predictable tale of high school romance between the “Duff” and the school’s most sought-after hunk. Overall, “The Duff” is a feel-good, vanilla rom-com which is entertaining with some old-school charm that you can relate to.
-
Director Colin Trevorrow has done a commendable job by delivering this colossal project which is close to the original. The visuals which include CGI images, VFX and 3D effects are astonishing and the background score accentuates the viewing experience.
-
Director Mohit Suri’s Hamari Adhuri Kahani is an anachronistic, tragic romance that touches an emotional chord, yet, makes you dismiss it as a regressive piece of art. The direction appears confused, with a present-day setting, while the treatment of the plot and characters belong to a bygone era.
-
With a run time of nearly three hours, the pace of the film is slow, but it’s entertaining!
-
Director Ashish R. Mohan seems to have a flair for action, but could have concentrated on quality humour as well. The dialogues, though witty at times seem like a feeble effort to make the audience laugh.
“Welcome 2 Karachi” is a poor desi version of the “Dumb and the Dumber”.
-
…is an ideal blockbuster, which reminds you about the strong temblors that destroyed Nepal and shook northern India in the recent past.
-
What impedes the smooth, uninterrupted viewing is the constant bleeps in the dialogues, imposed by the censor board of the country. Apart from this, the writers have been innovative in introducing new cuss words like “lafange, luchhe, darpok, eena meena deekaa”… whatever they are supposed to mean.
Honestly, P Se PM Tak is a weak satire that does not impress.

With all the tropes of the romance genre weaved into it, Ishqedarriyaan is a typical contrived, mushy and predictable tale of a Prince Charming and a damsel in distress. Overall, this is an ideal film for die-hard romantics who believe that good things happen to good people.
-
…is a well-directed zombie film that is pleasantly engaging. It will appeal to those who are not into gore and blood curdling horror.
