A Working Man

The film never quite crackles, but it doesn't fumble either. The pacing is taut, but emotionally, A Working Man feels like a flatline punctuated by action beats. It's not that it's bad. It's that it never dares to be better.

A Working Man doesn't reach the giddy highs of Statham's best. It spends too much time futzing with its star's righteous bona fides, and while Statham looks great for his age, his fight sequences become increasingly methodical as the movie goes on, making little use of his trademark athleticism.

Statham re-teams with the director of "The Beekeper" for another smooth-brained piece of schlock that takes full advantage of his screen persona.

Statham reunites with director David Ayer after their last hit together, The Beekeeper, for this formulaic but effective actioner. The film feels overlong at nearly two hours, with repetitiveness settling in early. But it does have its enjoyable eccentric touches.
