Critic consensus

What 5 critics are saying

Critical reception for Shelter is mixed-to-moderate, with most reviewers finding it a competent but unremarkable entry in the action thriller genre. Statham's physical presence and the film's practical, old-school action sequences drew the most consistent praise across reviews. However, critics frequently pointed to a weak narrative, a lack of memorable moments, and an overall absence of passion as the film's primary shortcomings. The consensus is that Shelter is watchable but fails to distinguish itself within Statham's filmography.

  2. Filmfare

    Film review

Jason Statham, also one of the film's producers, clearly still has it in spades and shows no sign of surrendering his action crown anytime soon. The fights are tactile, crunchy and satisfyingly old-school, with a commitment to practical thrills that feels oddly nostalgic and deeply appreciated.

  3. Hindustan Times

    Film review

Jason Statham gets one of the meatiest parts of his career in Shelter, the new action thriller from Ric Roman Waugh. Shelter gives him all the chops to deliver in the slick and handsomely styled set pieces.

  4. KoiMoi

    Film review

Shelter is an enjoyable action thriller that offers us a bit of what the Jason Statham brand has been made famous for, but sadly, it lacks passion, and big moments to make the film standout. While entertaining, it is still a low point in his filmography.
