Critic consensus

What 6 critics are saying

Critics largely panned BRO as a missed opportunity that prioritizes Pawan Kalyan's star persona over its own story. The premise of a man getting a second chance to fix his life before death was seen as having genuine potential, but reviewers consistently found that the film's preoccupation with Pawan Kalyan's image, career references, and fan-service elements hollowed out the emotional core. A few critics acknowledged scattered laughs and an initially promising setup. The overall consensus is that the Telugu remake loses sight of what made its source material work, leaving behind a lackluster, one-note product.

  1. Indian Express

    Film review ·

The film is meant for the fans only, as it uses every opportunity to build upon the image and previous hits of Pawan Kalyan, catering primarily to his persona rather than delivering a universally compelling narrative.
  2. India Today

    Film review ·

Director Samuthikani's 'BRO', starring Pawan Kalyan and Sai Dharam Tej, is a Telugu remake of the Tamil film, 'Vinodhaya Sitham'. While the story remains the same, the Telugu version is an ode to Pawan Kalyan more than the story itself.
  3. The News Minute

    Film review ·

Pawan Kalyan appears throughout the film, but that is also what becomes its undoing. The focus on Pawan Kalyan does not allow the director to invest in the actual story or the secondary characters. BRO's lackluster story cannot be redeemed no matter how much effort the team has put in.
  4. Times Of India

    Film review

BRO has the kind of story that seems heart-warming and life-affirming on paper, but in a bid to commercialise these very poignant questions, Samuthirakani chooses to pad the film with duets, special numbers, sudden references to Pawan Kalyan's career and more that don't always work or worse – water down the emotions. BRO could've been the poignant tale of a man who had to grow up a little too fast and, in the process, forgets to make the most of his life. What you get instead is a film that loses steam as it progresses with the messaging lost in the chaos of it all. This one is a missed opportunity.
  5. Firstpost

    Film review ·

A few good laughs in a movie that spans 2 hours 5 minutes is not enough. The film more often than not placed higher value on nostalgia than story telling. Instead, what we get is a brilliant idea with inferior execution.
  6. Zoom TV

    Film review ·

Pawan, never known to be an actor of subtle skills gives one of his career's laziest performances as God. He seems convinced about his suitability for the part. We remain unconvinced till the end. The idea of a dead man getting a grace period to fix his life before being summoned to Heaven, had the potential of being a terrific satire on the wages of sin and the burden of earthly duties. Bro forfeits the opportunity squanders it in a plot that is a one-note eulogy to a fast-fading star.
