Most Divergent Takes

Captain Miller

Captain Miller

2024 · Firstpost

Captain Miller's progression from a simple young man to a man ridden with guilt and desperation, the cause and effect of his decisions, and its impact on his family, friends and community is a well-rounded story

KGF-1

KGF-1

2018 · Hindustan Times

KGF, overall, is a slow burner. The plot takes its own sweet time to take shape. While a tighter screenplay would have made for better film, the narration technique does try to make up for it.

Jigarthanda DoubleX

Jigarthanda DoubleX

2023 · Firstpost · Nov 2023

Jigarthanda DoubleX is a little bit of a Western film, but instead of a cowboy, we have local gangsters swinging their weapon of choice — be it a camera or a gun. Despite the finesse that Karthik has shown in helming this sequel, there are weak links in the film that may hinder the experience.

Leo

Leo

2023 · Firstpost · Oct 2023

Is it a good action film? It is entertaining enough. The most intriguing part about Leo is how the lead character is brilliant representation of human psychology. However, this world of make belief has cracks, and these are ones that can't be ignored.

Mark Antony

Mark Antony

2023 · Firstpost · Sep 2023

Mark Antony squandered its potential, leaving us with a lingering sense of dissatisfaction. In excess, there are short inspired stretches in the film that really point you towards the potential that the film had, but couldn't reach.

Sapta Sagaradaache Ello – Side A

Sapta Sagaradaache Ello – Side A

2023 · Firstpost · Sep 2023

Such a beautiful film is not possible without equally mesmerising visuals and cinematographer Advaitha Gurumurthy has done a brilliant job. Despite how heartbreaking Sapta Sagaradaache Ello (Side A) has been, I cannot wait to see what happens to Manu and Priya in Sapta Sagaradaache Ello (Side B).

Kushi

Kushi

2023 · Firstpost · Sep 2023

In that vein, Kushi is a missed chance. In a country where extremists seek life in the name of love jihad, it could have really fostered love and acceptance. Instead, we have something forgettable.

King of Kotha

King of Kotha

2023 · Firstpost · Aug 2023

The film as a whole, however, has left me disappointed because here is a film that could have gone big with its bromance and noir treatment, but all we experienced was shallow mass moments, and scenes strung together to make a passable story. If the film had as much of an emotional depth as Dulquer Salmaan's one dialogue that explains his love for Aishwarya Lekshmi's Thara — we would have probably had a winner.

Jailer

Jailer

2023 · Firstpost · Aug 2023

Jailer is a film that will be successful despite failing the Bechdel test, because it passes on entertainment value with flying colours like many other successful commercial films. One of the most memorable things about Nelson's directorial, Jailer, starring Rajinikanth, is the fact that the superstar doesn't get into a zone where he performs unbelievable action sequences.

BRO

BRO

2023 · Firstpost · Jul 2023

A few good laughs in a movie that spans 2 hours 5 minutes is not enough. The film more often than not placed higher value on nostalgia than story telling. Instead, what we get is a brilliant idea with inferior execution.

Maaveeran

Maaveeran

2023 · Firstpost · Jul 2023

Director Madonne Ashwin has taken a simple story of a man finding courage during dark times and made it into a comedy that left the theatre echoing rousing cheers and loud laughter.

Varisu

Varisu

2023 · Firstpost · Jan 2023

Varisu is playing in cinemas near you, but the film exploits emotions—mainly that of women—in an archaic setup through emotional manipulation, using female characters as objects of foil to justify toxic family dynamics under the garb of filial piety.
