Aside from a few laughs post-intermission, this film is a crashing bore.

This one’s definitely not for the fastidious, choosy viewer but for those who don’t mind losing it for a bit, Double Dhamaal works like an average Bollywood comedy. Performance-wise, it’s one big circus with the guys hogging most of the limelight. The girls — Mallika and Kangana — are mere confetti.

The filmmakers were possibly busy scoring a tax-free contract to shoot in Macau. Dialogue writers were giggling over their rhymes in every other line, pun on every second word. The editors were paid to keep their trap shut. Whining women (Kangna Ranaut, Mallika Sherawat) were picked up for pretty posters. Male actors then were naturally left to somehow figure their way through this mess.

Double Dhamaal is a huge disappointment. Especially for those who’ve seen the first part. And even for those who haven’t. Watch it at your own risk.

To be fair, Double Dhamaal has a few giggle-worthy moments, but you must earn these moments by lasting through endless torture tactics that Indra Kumar unleashes on you. These include mediocre gags, garish songs and Kangana Ranaut.

On the whole, Double Dhamaal is for the masses and the single-screen cinemas mainly. Considering its high cost (over Rs. 40 crore), it is not likely to prove a profitable venture even though the producers have made a killing from its satellite rights. If, by a stroke of good luck, the producers are able to break even, at least the distributors of the circuits, for which the producers have sold the rights, would end up being in the red because of the high prices they’ve paid.

On the whole, DOUBLE DHAMAAL is a seriously hilarious movie that lives up to its title — it’s double dhamaal all the way. If you are not looking for wisdom and rationale in a light-hearted entertainer, I am sure you will savor this carnival of claptrap. Sometimes, a good laugh is all you need to make your day. Try not to miss this one, it pledges hilarity in abundance… Carrying a positive vibe and a high degree of expectation, the film is tipped to be ‘hot’ amongst viewers and is likely to embark on a strong initial at the box-office. Here’s hoping that the first half of 2011 closes on a dhamaal note with DOUBLE DHAMAAL.

Yes, you laugh at some instances but when you’re expected to turn off your brain and relax to a nice guffaw fest film, you know you’re heading the wrong way if your brain switches on again.

Double Dhamaal has no intentions of tickling you. The idea is to torment you. Everyone’s eyes are perennially popped out, their mops of hair raised and there’s so much of jumping and falling going around, this kind of slapstick really deserves both: a slap and a stick.
